

Born May 16, 1921, in West Virginia, he was son of the late John Pope and Lillian (Covaci) Pope Soleff.
Mr. Pope was a WWII U.S. Coast Guard veteran who proudly served his country while stationed in Brooklyn, NY.
He attended Bressler Bible Church and was a retired steelworker. John was the former owner of the Sweet Shop in Harrisburg and was also the former proprietor of the Colonial Pines Golden Age Home.
Surviving are 2 sons, Wayne T. Pope (and his wife, Kathryn) and John C. Pope, both of Harrisburg; a daughter, Susanna E. Pope, of Harrisburg; 2 grandchildren, Kelly L. Pope and Kathleen Ann (Pope) Ritter; 3 great-grandchildren, Megan K. Butler, Addison Ritter, and Erica L. Kauffman; a great-great grandson, Ryan T. Butler; numerous nieces and nephews; and many brothers and sisters-in-law to whom he had been close.
In addition to his parents and his wife, John was preceded in death by a brother, Peter Pope.
A funeral service will be held Tuesday, March 5, 2013, 11:00 a.m., at Zimmerman-Auer Funeral Home, Inc., 4100 Jonestown Road, Harrisburg, PA 17109. Viewing will be from 10-11:00 a.m. at the funeral home. Interment at Woodlawn Memorial Gardens will follow the service.
In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to Bressler Bible Church, 655 Monroe Street, Steelton, PA 17113.
