
Michael Joseph Linnane, 58 of Duncannon (Perdix) died peacefully after losing his 27 month battle with mesothelioma on Monday, September 26, 2011 at the Carolyn Croxton Slane Hospice residence with his devoted wife, Betty, by his side. Born in Harrisburg to John and Arlene (Bahner) Linnane on February 5, 1953. He attended Sacred Heart and St. Francis of Assisi elementary schools and was a 1971 graduate of Bishop McDevitt.

He retired from the Department of Labor and Industry after 18 years of State Service. In his earlier years, he worked for Yellow Cab Company and Penn Harris Cab Company.

In 1981 he met the love of his life, Betty Gilbert; together for 30 years, they would have been married 18 years on October 11, 2011. Some of Mike's interests included baseball, horse racing, doing crossword puzzles, classical music, day trips, keno, and watching golf and the Food Network. He enjoyed going to Hollywood Casino and home cooking, especially his famous chili. Mike also took many car trips around Perry County, traveled Route 6 twice, and he got to enjoy California, Maine, Florida, and Nevada.

He was sweet, kind, loved animals, spoke his mind, was generous, but known in certain places as "cheap Mike," and his favorite food was a big plate of spaghetti.

Mike is survived by his wife, Betty (Gilbert) Linnane; two brothers, Patrick Linnane and his wife Barbara of Carlisle, and Thomas Linnane of Etters; a sister, Virginia Schreck of Middletown; a favorite niece, Sherry Schreck; and other nieces and nephews.

Honoring Mike's request, there will be no viewing or funeral. Private services will be held at a later date at the convenience of the family. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Hospice of Central PA, 1320 Linglestown Road, Harrisburg, PA 17110, or Perdix Fire Dept., 2 Firehouse Road, Duncannon, PA 17020.
