

Paul Edgar Sell, Jr., “Pete”, 95, passed away Wednesday, May 4, 2016, at Cross Keys Village, The Brethren Home Community, New Oxford, PA. Pete is survived by his wife Hilda (Rinckenberg) Meck Lyba Sell. He was previously married and predeceased by F. Jean (Wolfe) Albright Sell and his first wife of fifty six years Eleanor (Patrick) Sell.
Born on December 7, 1920 to Paul E. and Leah A. (Wentz) Sell in Hanover, PA, Pete attended elementary schools in Hanover and graduated from Eichelberger Senior High School class of 1939. During his school years he participated in sports, namely football, basketball, and wrestling.
Pete graduated from Franklin and Marshall College, Lancaster, PA in 1943. He was a shipping supervisor with Duplex Products in Dillsburg, PA prior to retirement in 1987. He was previously employed in production by the Standard Register in York, PA and in Middlebury, VT.
During World War II, he was a cryptographer in the Signal Corps in the Pacific. He was honorably discharged at war’s end in 1945 while attending Officer’s Candidate School. He was a life member of the VFW Post 8896, East Berlin, PA; American Legion Post 14, Hanover, PA; and Hanover Amvets Post 22.
Pete was a lifetime member of Emmanuel United Church of Christ in Hanover where he served on the church consistory and sang with the chancel choir for a number of years. He was a lifetime member of the Elks Lodge 763 and active member of the Color Guard.
While a resident at Cross Keys Village, Pete served on the Village Council for several terms. He was also active in the Village Wood Shop making numerous wall and mantle clocks for his family. Pete was a member of the Villagers Chorus and a member of the Model Train Committee.
He was preceded in death by a sister Barbara Sell Blumenthal and a grandson Todd Christopher Deardorff. Surviving are daughters Rebecca (George) Deardorff, Dacula, GA; Lucinda (Dan) Bonner, The Villages, FL; and son Douglas (Marty) Sell, Lexington, KY. Also surviving are nine grandchildren, fourteen great-grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews.
A memorial service will be held Saturday, June 18, 2016 at 11:00 a.m., at Emmanuel United Church of Christ, 124 Broadway, Hanover, PA 17331, with visitation starting at 10:00 a.m. Interment will be at Mt. Olivet Cemetery.
