Bob was a flight officer for the Army Air Core in World War II. He completed 17 missions in a B-17 called “Everlastin’ Gal” as a navigator and night bombardier. He graduated with a Bucknell degree from Wilkes College PA. He retired as a Finance Manager for GMAC with over 50 years of service in Wilkes Barre and Harrisburg. After his retirement, he continued to work with his friends from GMAC at the Manheim Auto Auction and Keystone Auto Auction for several years.
Bob was preceded in death by his wife, Elizabeth (Ziegler) Dido and his siblings, John Dido, Jr and Mary Dido, his daughter-in-law, Anne (Youch) Dido, granddaughter, Jennifer Dido and her son Liam, and grandson Matthew M. Fure.
He is survived by his four children and their families: Robert J. Dido, Jr and his wife Linda of New York, Diane (Dido) Fure and her husband, Michael of Harrisburg, and their children, Dominic and his wife Erin of Harrisburg, and Jessica who is currently residing in England. Mark Dido of Harrisburg and his children from Harrisburg, Mark Dido and wife Katie and daughter Summer, Joe Dido and his wife Erin and their daughter, Naomi and Jake Dido who is currently living in West Virginia. Cynthia (Dido) Fure and her husband Robert of Harrisburg, plus their sons, Alex residing in Harrisburg, and Robert and his wife Megan with their son, Connor, residing in California.
Bob was active until his early nineties, and enjoyed painting and tennis and gardening. He was concerned with the plight of the Native Americans and if desired, in lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to any of the charities supporting them.
A Gathering of family and friends will be held from 2:00 PM to 4:00 PM Sunday, August 25, 2019 in the Neill Funeral Home, 3501 Derry St., Harrisburg. Private burial with military honors will be held at Indiantown Gap National Cemetery.
