Born in Kansas City, KS, Soni was a caring wife, mother, sister, aunt, great-aunt, and friend. In 1971, on a blind date, she met the love of her life, Tom Feldmann. On this serendipitous occasion, Soni's first selection from the jukebox was a song titled “He Ain’t Heavy, He’s My Brother,” which was made famous by the Hollies. The ballad about serving others would be a guiding principle shared by Soni and Tom over 53 years of marriage and would be an important value they passed along to their two daughters.
Soni took helping others to heart and found tremendous joy in supporting kids with special needs throughout her life. She had a fulfilling career as a teacher in elementary school and Headstart settings as well as working as Therapeutic Support Staff out in the community. Even when she faced her own challenges with diagnoses of Rheumatoid Arthritis and Parkinson’s disease, she would highlight individuals like Christopher Reeve and Michael J. Fox, who persevered through hardships and found positivity whenever possible.
Soni truly empathized with others and could always be counted on for an encouraging word and a compassionate ear whether it be for a family member, friend, student, or acquaintance.
Soni is survived by her husband, Tom; her two daughters, Maeve Hoffman and Miranda Feldmann; her siblings, Vicki Yauger, Joyce Breach, Tami Doughty, and David Scarr; and her extended loving family, including her nieces, nephews, great-nieces, and great-nephews.
