Sondra (Sonny) Lee Brown-Reeder-Horton, 82, of Shippensburg, PA, passed away on August 22, 2025, just a few days shy of her 83rd birthday.
She was born in Carlisle, PA on August 28, 1942 to Dortha Marie and Charles Murphy Brown. She attended Shippensburg High School and graduated from Greenbriar College, High School Division (class of 1960).
She lived a full life, filled with love from her family and laughter with friends. She was happily married to William (Bill) Reeder for 36 years until Bill passed in 1999. Together, they had three children, Chandra (Chandie) Lurray, Kimberly (Kim) Ann, and William (Chuck) Charles Reeder. They enjoyed boating, visiting Avalon, NJ, and traveling to new places together.
In 2010, Sonny remarried to long-time family friend, Samuel (Sam) Horton, Jr. They were married for almost 10 years, until Sam passed in 2019.
Sonny appreciated the simple things in life – playing cards with her family and Bridge Club, feeling the warmth of the sand and sun at the beach, lounging in a cool pool on a hot summer day, and snuggling with her pets. Most of all, she celebrated each day she spent with family, whether it was gathering for a birthday, baking cookies together, or going on the annual Christmas shopping trip and then spending hours wrapping the endless gifts.
For decades, she took on the role of caretaker for her 8 grandchildren. They had the gift of growing up with her love, guidance, and grace, and have fond memories that won’t fade – sledding down her steep backyard in Gap, PA, and heading back inside for hot cocoa, riding tricycles in her basement, laying in her famous water bed, and swimming for hours in the pool with her. She was both the rock and the glue of the family, an unwavering constant and role model of strength and patience. She loved with all her heart and soul, which was felt by everyone near her.
Sonny was preceded in death by both her mother and father, her sister, Barbara Ann Myers, and late husbands, Bill Reeder and Sam Horton, Jr. She is survived by her children, Chandie (Dave) Glenlast, Kim (Dan) Pratt, and Chuck (Jen) Reeder. She is also survived and remembered by her grandchildren, Amanda (Benjamin) Bieganski, Zachary (Megan) Pratt, Elizabeth (Austin) Ortega, Patrick Pratt, Ryan Glenlast, Madison Reeder, Mikayla Reeder, and Alexa Reeder; and great-grandchildren, Harper Bieganski and Myla Pratt.
A memorial service will be held on Saturday, September 13, 2025, at 10 am at Mt. Zion United Methodist church in Narvon, PA. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Pennsylvania SPCA Lancaster Center.
