
Val graduated from Camp Hill High School, class of 1944, and Rider College, New Jersey. She was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church, Camp Hill, a former member of the West Shore Country Club and the Junior League of Harrisburg. She was also a former Girl Scout leader and Cub Scout den mother.
Val was a dedicated stay at home mom for most of her adult life. She was a meticulous housekeeper who enjoyed cooking, sewing, bowling, and golfing. Over the years she created many outfits for herself, her husband, and her children. In her later years she owned and operated a successful Diet Center business located in the Medical Arts Building of Camp Hill, and she volunteered for Meals On Wheels.
The last two years of her life were spent in the Maplewood Assisted Living facility of Bethany Village where she received excellent care and was dearly loved by many friends and all who cared for her. She enjoyed watching game shows and sports on TV, visiting with family and friends, and playing cards with her friends.
She is survived by one son, D. Lester Weidner, Jr. of Mechanicsburg; two daughters, Deborah Louise Austin of Glenmoore, PA and Denise Louise Dougherty of Millerstown, PA; one sister, Roberta Sweeley of Williamsburg, VA; along with three grandsons, three granddaughters, and one great grandson.
