Wayne R. Collier

Wayne R. Collier, 80, passed away on December 18, 2024 in York, PA after fighting a long battle with dementia.

Son of Betty F. Johnson-Collier, Wayne was born September 22, 1944 in Salem, NJ. He graduated from Salem High School in 1964 and entered the U.S. Air Force shortly after, serving proudly during Vietnam, though stationed mainly in England. He worked as a Chemical Operator at DuPont in Deepwater, NJ for approximately 20 years and at Siegfried in Zofingen, Switzerland for about 6 years. While in Switzerland he fulfilled his dream of seeing places in Europe, including: Rome, Italy; Paris, France; and Berlin, Germany. He loved his journeys, exploring historical sites, and meeting interesting people.

He was preceded to heaven by his mother, Betty Collier and brother Paul Collier. He is survived by his wife and mother of his children, Janice Mayfield-Collier, residing at 3106 Mackenzi Lane, Apt. 1, York, PA 17408; daughter, Michele Collier and husband Larry Ward of Mantua, NJ; son, Robert Collier of Woodstown, NJ; son, Nathan Collier and wife Crystal Shank-Collier of York, PA; and son, Brian Collier and wife Laura James of Hanover, PA; as well as 6 grandchildren and 2 great grandchildren.

Wayne’s burial service will be held in Indiantown Gap National Cemetery, where he will have a veteran’s burial, attended by immediate family members only. A private memorial will be held, also for family members only.

Wayne was a deeply beloved husband, father, grandfather, great grandfather and friend. His favorite pastimes were spending quality time with his family, gardening – in his younger years -and going on bus trips with his wife, Janice. He has been a rock to many, a master at sarcastic humor and witty timing to others. He will be greatly missed by all.

The family wishes to thank the caregivers at Seaton Springwood Senior Living, York, PA and the caregivers of Serenity Hospice of Pennsylvania, Lancaster, PA for treating Wayne with love and compassion during his time under their care. We will be eternally grateful for your help.
