

William C. Brunner, a beloved husband, historian, and collector whose passion for life touched many, passed away peacefully of natural causes on June 13, 2025, at age 80 in Mechanicsburg, PA. Born on January 6, 1945, in Phoenixville to William H. and Mabel (Boyer) Brunner, Bill grew up in Spring City, PA, and graduated from Spring-Ford High School with the class of 1962.
Bill enjoyed a diverse career, beginning at Firestone Tire and Rubber Company, followed by roles as a service manager at Lummis Supply and Wagner Auto Sales, before dedicating his final years to public service, retiring in 2001 as a case manager with the Pennsylvania Department of Welfare.
A lifelong collector, Bill’s curiosity began with bubble gum cards as a child and grew to include postcards, trains, and glassware. His love for trains fueled many family vacations, where he honed his skills as a self-taught photographer, capturing moments with precision and care. As president of the Spring-Ford Historical Society for over 15 years, Bill helped preserve the area’s heritage, inspiring countless residents through his three books, newsletter articles, and engaging community presentations. Known for his infectious enthusiasm and knack for storytelling, Bill could turn a simple train ride or historical fact into a captivating tale.
Bill is survived by Joyce (Litka), his beloved wife of 62 years; son Charles (Diane) of Spring City; daughter Joyce Gutshall (Gary) of Mechanicsburg; three grandchildren, Amber Norwood (Shaun), William Smeltzer (Juliet), and Frank Brunner; and six great-grandchildren, Audrey, Jameson, Helaina, Hadley, Adalyn, and James. He was predeceased by his parents and granddaughter, Theresa Marie Brunner.
