

Doris "Dot" H. Harris, age 88, passed away peacefully on Monday, May 5, 2014 in Hemet, CA. Dot was born on Friday, January 8, 1926 to William and Myrtle Harris in Highpoint, NC. She graduated from Broughton High School in 1944 and went on to earn her Bachelor's Degree from Merideth College in NC with a double major in English and History. Dot met the love of her life, William O. (Bill) Harris and they were married on June 4, 1949 and began their life together. She worked for the North Carolina Department of Archives and History as a Senior Archivist and manuscript expert from 1950-1958. In 1964, Dot and Bill made the journey to Riverside, CA were she became a stay at home Mom for a short while. From 1973-1979, Dot was a music and guitar instructor a the University of California Riverside for the Recreation Program. Bill and Dot co-founded the Barn Folk Concert Series at the University of Riverside Barn where she was the Director and Coordinator form 1979-1998. Dot enjoyed performing and playing her guitar for Benefit Concerts throughout the SoCal schools, libraries, and senior living facilities. She also hosted a radio program for KUCR 88.3 fm called "Folk on Fridays".
Dot is preceded in death by her parents, William and Myrtle Harris, her sister, Bunny, and her beloved husband of more that 64 years, Bill Harris. Dot is survived by her son, Sidney (Deena) Harris of Anchorage, AK; her daughter, Anna Harris of Riverside, CA; sister, Marlene (Craven) Page; grandchildren, April and Miranda; and great-grandchildren, Mina, Roy and Miles.
Dot will be laid to rest with Bill at Riverside National Cemetery in Riverside, CA in a private service.
Dot touched many lives and will be truly missed by all those who were honored to know her and who loved her.
