Earl Douglass Pushard, age 92, of Henderson, Nevada, passed away on August 16, 2019 after recently returning from a cruise with his new wife Sue Huron. Doug was born May 19, 1927, son of Charles Pushard and Linnie Mosca, growing up in rural Maine, and joining the Merchant Marines at the age of 17 to serve his country. After World War II, he graduated from Tufts earning his degree in Public Health.
Doug and his family moved to Las Vegas in 1955 where he worked his entire career at the Clark County Health Department instituting many health programs that are still in effect today. He assisted in writing the National Code on swimming pool spas. Giving back to the community was very important to him and as a young father, he volunteered at the local chapter of the Red Cross and Boy Scout Troop 77.
Doug loved square dancing, traveling around the country in his RV, touring with his motor cycling buddies, hunting and fishing with his sons, going to movies and plays with his daughter, and cruising around the world.
Doug is survived by his wife, Mary Sue Huron Pushard; four children: Sandra Barth and her husband Bob, Douglass Pushard II, Russell Pushard and his wife Susan, and Aydin Onur; 8 grandchildren; 18 great grandchildren; and 1 great, great grandchild.
Doug will be laid to rest at the Southern Nevada Veteran’s Memorial Cemetery in Boulder City, next to Eva Temm Pushard, mother of his children and wife of 53 years until her death. The family requests in lieu of flowers, donations be sent to the Veterans at http://honorflightsouthernnevada.org/.
