Orlando P. Sela was born in 1927 in Havana, Cuba. He spent the early part of his life in his beloved Cuba pursuing his education, living life and starting a family. In 1961 , he left Cuba with his wife and two daughters to live with family in El Salvador. His ultimate goal was to bring his family to the United States which he did in 1962. His family increased with the birth of his son, Orlando Jr. Orlando worked hard to maintain his Cuban traditions and beliefs while in America and was active with his La Salle classmates throughout his life.
Upon coming to the United States, times were challenging and job opportunities few. His training and education as an Accountant ultimately allowed him to return to his chosen profession. He worked for the Archdiocese of Miami Catholic Charities, initially in support of the Peter Pan program moving later to broader responsibilities. He retired from the Archdiocese after 30 years of service.
Retirement was not a notion that Orlando fully embraced. He kept involved in the profession by helping social agencies and others with his accounting skills. Ultimately, he began working with his eldest daughter and son-in-law in their business taking great pride in their success and growth and worked consistently until very recently.
Orlando is survived by his brother, Carlos Sela, his two daughters, Maria Isabel Nunez and Elena Manning, his son, Orlando Sela Jr., stepson Jorge Baro, six grandchildren and seven greatgrandchildren. His life spanned four generations and his dedication to family, church and friends was unyielding. He will be greatly missed.
