Benjamin Gaston Weathers
April 4, 1938 – February 12, 2018
Jamestown, NC Benjamin G. Weathers, age 79, passed away Monday, February 12, 2018 at Shannon Gray Rehab Center, a caring and loving community, following several months of declining health. Born April 4, 1938 in Shelby, NC to Gordon and Juanita (Eaker) Weathers; he was the oldest of three children. Ben was a 1956 graduate of High Point (Central) High School. He joined the U.S. Navy right after graduation in July of 1956.
After serving in the U.S. Navy, Ben worked in the apparel industry for many years in North Carolina. He continued his career in apparel sales and also worked in the travel industry in Florida, where he got his passport stamped around the world. Ben was always a people person and enjoyed his semi-retirement as a licensed contract driver in Naples, FL. He had a passion for beach music and dancing, especially shagging. Every September, you could find him amongst the thousands that flocked to North Myrtle Beach for the Shaggers and Beach Music Lovers Festival, known as SOS. Fat Harold’s Beach Club and the legendary Galleon were his favorite beach spots to catch up with old friends. He loved North Myrtle Beach so much, he eventually moved there, until he found a warm and loving companionship with Teri Olson and finally settled in Jamestown, NC to be closer to her and his family. He was also an avid golfer, who enjoyed teaching his sons & grandsons all about the sport. Some of his favorite times out were watching his sons & grandsons play ball, and going bowling with all of his children and grandchildren. One of the highlights, most certainly, was seeing his youngest son, Sean, win a National Football Championship at Valdosta State University.
Ben was preceded in death by a son, Todd. Surviving are three sons, Dayne Weathers and wife, Gina, of High Point, Darren Weathers of Charleston, SC and Sean Weathers of Chicago, IL; two brothers, Malcolm Weathers and wife, Kaye, of Tampa, FL and Ron Weathers and wife, Debbie, of Charlotte; grandchildren, Kristian, Julian, Logan, Griffin and Ashley;great-grandson, Weston Dayne Weathers; step-daughters, Julie, Jennifer and Heather. The family will gather at Davis Funeral Home located at 976 Phillips Ave., High Point, NC 27262 on Saturday, February 17th from 5 until 6 p.m. to receive friends. Memorials may be made to Hospice of the Piedmont, 1801 Westchester Dr., High Point, NC 27262.
