Obie was born in Surry County, September 23, 1949, a son of the late Arnold Tate and Genett Willard Tate. He worked in furniture his entire life. He was faithful member of God's House of Prayer for His Glory. Obie enjoyed fishing, working in his yard and watching NASCAR. He was preceded in death by his son, Arnold Tate, two sisters, Susie Slate and Emily Montaham and two brothers, Ed Tate and Gene Tate.
Surviving are his wife of 46 years, Hilda Baker Tate; a sister, Betty Mae Monahan; a brother, Donald Tate and his wife Linda; and several nieces and nephews.
A Celebration of Obie's life will be held at 2 p.m. on Saturday, May 27, 2023 at God's House of Prayer for His Glory by Pastor Ronnie Everhart and Pastor Dean Maynard. The family will receive friends following the service. Memorials may be directed to Hospice of the Piedmont.
