Amanda C. SLOAN

Amanda Cole Sloan passed away on Saturday, the 7th of September 2019 after an extended illness. She was born on 7th of February 1952 in Tacoma, Washington to the late Imogene Sheffield and Dewey Cole. Amanda grew up as an Air Force “brat” and was reared on bases all over the world. Graduating from Bellevue High School in Nebraska where she was head of the dance team, she later received her LPN degree in Pensacola, Florida. Her lifelong hobbies were playing the piano and collecting Elvis and Beatles memorabilia. When she retired from nursing, she became a family Florence Nightingale, tending to relatives and friends during their illnesses. She was “the cool aunt” to all of her nieces and nephews and their children.
Amanda was preceded in death by her parents. She is survived by her loving husband of 38 years, William Earl “Bill” Sloan, Jr., Mr. Friendly the cat, son Todd Covarrubias (Deborah), and her siblings Vickie Cole Andreae (Robert), Andy Cole (Nancy), and sister-in-love Barbara Sloan. She will be greatly missed by her host of nieces, nephews, great-nieces, and great-nephews.
Friends are cordially invited to a gathering starting at nine o’clock Saturday, the 14th of September with the funeral service following at ten o’clock at Ridout’s Valley Chapel in Homewood. The committal service will immediately follow, via escorted cortege at historic Elmwood Cemetery.

Oh my sweet cousin. I know you are finally getting the rest you needed. I will never forget the summer you stayed with Dad, Mom and me at Oakview Circle. I had the best time with you, you never lost your cool with a gawky little kid. I still have the painting you gave to me hanging on my wall. You were one of the coolest, most unique women I have ever known. I can't wait for that big ole reunion in the heavens.
