Ann D. Henagan
November 13, 1935 – April 6, 2021
Ann Douglas Henagan, 85, of Mountain Brook, Alabama, passed away on April 6th, 2021 while surrounded by family. Ann was born in Florence, South Carolina, on November 13th, 1935, to Forrest and Maxine Douglas. She was in the first graduating class of Shades Valley High School in Birmingham, Alabama. She attended The University of Alabama and pledged Pi Beta Phi. While in Tuscaloosa, she met her future husband, James Vann Henagan. Following graduation, Ann and Vann were married and moved to Mobile, Alabama. Later the couple moved back to Birmingham where they raised two daughters. During this time, Ann taught kindergarten and became the Kindergarten Director at Brookwood Baptist Church. Ann was also extremely active in the PTA. Afterwards, she became a real estate agent for Norville, Randolph & Shaw, and later, Chambers, King & Meade. Following Vann’s retirement, the couple travelled abroad extensively. Ann was preceded in death by her parents, brother, Joe Douglas, and her husband of 62 years. She is survived by her daughters, Elizabeth Henagan Arnold (Scott) of Vestavia and Susan Henagan Logan (Thomas) of Mountain Brook, and five grandchildren, Douglas Logan Rathel (Hayden), Sarah Hayden Logan, Vann Logan, Maggie Logan, and Kaye Arnold. A small memorial service will be held at Canterbury United Methodist Church at 2:00 pm on Friday, April 9th. There will be limited seating and a mask is required. A private graveside service will follow at Elmwood Cemetery. The family wishes to express their heartfelt thanks to the caregivers who so lovingly cared for Ann: Yolanda Gamble, Roxanne Bailey, Griselda Murphy, and Francine Jones.
