PREJEAN, DR. JOE DAVID passed away on Wednesday, June 5, 2013, after a long- fought battle with Lou Gehrig's Disease ( ALS). He was born February 9, 1940 in Pampa, Texas to J.C. "Buck" and Blanche Prejean. He was a graduate of Tyler High School and Stephen F. Austin State College, where he received his BS. He received is M.A. from East Texas State University and earned his PhD in Radiation Biology from Texas A&M University. David spent his career at Southern Research Institute where he was a noted scientist and cancer researcher retiring in 2000 as President and CEO. He was Adjunct Associate Professor Public Health at UAB, a member of Sigma Xi, The American Association for Cancer Research, New York Academy of Sciences and The American College of Toxicology and was on the Board of Directors of American Cancer Society. He loved golf, working in the yard, relaxing at the beach with his grandchildren and traveling with his wife Candi. David is survived by his wife Candice Dominick Prejean, two children K'Anne Cox (Dale) of Columbus, OH and M. David Prejean (Gayle) of Dallas, TX and his grandchildren Claire Elizabeth Cox, Caleigh Marie Cox, William Ward Prejean and Catherine Elizabeth Prejean. The family will receive friends on Sunday, June 9th from 5:00 p.m. until 7:00p.m. at Ridout's Valley Chapel. The funeral service will be held on Monday, June 10th at All Saints Episcopal Church at 3:00 p.m. Private burial services will be held in Tyler, Texas at a later date.
