John Dicas, loving husband, father and grandfather, went peacefully to his heavenly home surrounded by family on Tuesday, September 26, 2023. John was born on August 31, 1941 in Birmingham, Alabama to Daniel and Edwina (Anderson) Dickas. He attended John Carroll High School and graduated from Auburn University with a degree in business administration. On March 11, 1967, John married the love of his life, Patricia Fleming. Together they raised three daughters, Christie, Marian, and Laura.
John was passionate about his faith, his family, and his work. As an active member of St. Peter the Apostle Catholic Church, John served on the parish council, sponsored RCIA candidates, chaired the Hospitality Commission, and served as an Extraordinary Minister of Holy Communion. John had a successful career in industrial lighting sales that spanned over 50 years. Additionally, John served his country, and he retired as Captain in the United States Naval Reserve after 26 years. John loved spending time with his family, cheering on the Auburn Tigers, and whistling along to his favorite songs.
John was preceded in death by his father Daniel, his mother Edwina, and his son David Andrew. He is survived by his wife Patricia; three daughters, Christie (Brian) Burke, Marian (David) Hanisko, and Laura Dicas; his grandchildren, Michael (Morgan) Resha, John Resha, Seth Burke, and Sophia Burke; and two great grandchildren, Carter Lillian Resha and Britton Resha.
John will be greatly missed by the many people whose lives he touched. A funeral mass will take place on Friday, October 6, 2023 at St. Peter the Apostle Catholic Church at 11 a.m. In lieu of flowers, please consider donations to the following charities: American Lung Association, Benedictine Sisters of Cullman Alabama, Greater Birmingham Ministries, or Mary’s House
