Canada and died December 5, 2018. She obtained her medical degree at The University of Alberta School of Medicine and completed her internship at Vancouver General Hospital. She did residency training in anesthesiology at Mercy Hospital in San Diego, critical care medical training at Queen’s Hospital in Honolulu, and a pain management fellowship at The University of Alabama Medical School in Birmingham where she became Assistant Professor of Anesthesia. She was board certified in anesthesia and was director of the UAB Pain Treatment Clinic before going into private practice.
She enjoyed hot tea, good books, and long walks and had a strong interest in alternative medicine. She was very devoted to her family who enjoyed her company and sought her advice on many issues. She was an excellent cook and made tasty cardamon bread for family and friends during the Christmas Holidays.
Dr. McDanal was preceded in death by her parents Myrtle and Einer Oman and brother William Oman. She is survived by her husband Clarence E. “Mackey” McDanal Jr, MD,MS; son David
McDanal (Manuela) Miami, daughter Emily Casey MD (Matt) Birmingham; grandchildren Corina, Lola, and Nicolas McDanal of Miami and Bennett and Ellen Mae Casey of Birmingham; and brother John Oman(Karol) of Alberta Canada.
