Geneva Pradia, age 68, a native of Baldwin and resident of Maryland, died Thursday, January 7, 2010 at 6:10 AM at her residence in Maryland. Geneva Baptiste Pradia, the daughter of the late Rev. Curley E. and Regina Jacquot Baptiste was born September 2, 1941 in Ashton, Louisiana in St. Mary's Parish. Geneva received her Bachelors and Masters Degrees in Education from Southern University in Baton Rouge, Louisiana and also completed graduate coursework at Michigan State University in East Lansing, Michigan. She was a retired school teacher of the Iberia Parish School System where she held positions as an elementary school teacher and special education LINK Counselor during her 30 year tenure. After her retirement, she became a consultant for the Federal Head Start Program, traveling extensively in that capacity. Throughout her life, Geneva displayed an unwavering commitment and love for her family and friends rooted in the religious and moral foundations of her upbringing. She found great joy and fulfillment in developing and nurturing the aspirations and potential of the young impressionable minds around her, especially her grandchildren. Peacefully, she departed this earthly life on Thursday, January 7, 2010 in Kensington, Maryland. Those left to cherish the beautiful memories of such a special woman are her loving children, Elvin D. Pradia of Los Angeles, CA; Five devoted sisters Benedict Fleming of Oakland, CA, Lilly Bourgeois (Charles) of Houston, TX, Viola Thomas of Franklin, LA, Carrie Jackson (Maxie) of East Lansing, MI and Betty Guy of Dallas, TX; One devoted brother, Earl Baptiste (Laura) of Franklin, LA; Twenty wonderful grandchildren: Randal Mouton of New Iberia, Ari Pradia and Kai Pradia of Elizabeth NJ, Krystan Norris, Kenneth Norris and Kamal Norris of Kensington, MD, Jordan Pradia of Cleveland, OH, Jasmon Pradia, Jason Pradia, Jr., Jaslynn Pradia, Jaylin Pradia and Jaydon Pradia of Lafayette, LA, Jasan Pradia and Jasante Pradia of New Iberia, LA, Yamina Pradia and Zane Pradia of Virginia Beach, VA, Jeremy Pradia Jr., Skyy Pradia and Amari Pradia of Los Angeles, CA; A devoted son-in-law, Kenneth J. Norris of Kensington Maryland, two faithful daughters-in-law Summer Richard Pradia of Los Angeles, CA and Maya Castille Pradia of Lafayette, LA., and a host of loving and thoughtful nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. As a lasting memorial to Geneva, and to keep her vision for developing the best of her ""sweet angels"" going forward, the family has established the Geneva Baptiste Pradia Scholarship Fund. In lieu of flowers, the family wishes to honor her memory and bring her vision to pass by supporting the scholarship fund. The family will receive visitors on Saturday, January 16, 2010 from 10:00 a.m. to noon at the Greater New Hope Baptist Church, 104 10th Street, Baldwin, LA. The Funeral Service will begin at 1:00 pm at the church. Interment at the Special Providence Baptist Church Cemetery in Baldwin, LA with the repast immediately following at the Greater New Hope Fellowship Hall. Final arrangements entrusted to Jones Funeral Home in Franklin, LA.
