Oneal Chube, age 88, a resident of Birmingham, Alab. and a native of St. Francisville, La., died Thursday, March 18, 2010 at 9:00 AM at UAB Highland in Birmingham, Alab. Born in St. Francisville, La., and raised in Baton Rouge, he dedicated his life to his family and community by educating and mentoring thousands of high school students as a teacher, administrator, and football coach for 26 years. Upon retirement, he served as business manager of Chube Medical Corporation in Gary, Indiana for 15 years, before retiring with his wife to reside in New Orleans. A proud World War II veteran, he served with honor during the D-Day Allied Invasion of Normandy through the Battle of the Bulge. Visitation will be Thursday, March 25th, at St. Jules Catholic Church, located at 1109 Magnolia St., in Franklin, La., from 8:00 AM until 10:00 AM, the rosary will begin at 10:00 AM until the funeral at 11:00 AM. The burial will take place in the Franklin Mausoleum, followed by a Repast at the Lamp Post. Coach Chube was survived by his son, Frank Chube of Mitchellville, Md.; three daughters, Janice Chube Moore of Atlanta, Ga., Renee Chube Washington(Phelgar) of Indianapolis, In., and Majella Chube Hamilton (Herschell) of Birmingham, Al.; a brother, David D. Chube; cousin, Voltaire Sterling; sisters-in-law, Mary Messiah Thomas Randolph and Claire Lynn Chube; niece, Bernadine Chube Jenkins; eight grandchildren, five great-grandchildren, and a host of cousins, nieces, nephews and former students. He was preceded in death by his parents, nurmerous siblings, and wife, Merion Messiah Chube. Fr. Oberg officiating.
