Amalia Cantu, an aunt, a mother, and a grandmother to us all. A woman who selflessly gave of her life to serve others. At an early age, Amalia put her life on hold to take care of her sick mother and then to raise the rest of her siblings when her mother left this Earth. From then on, Amalia gave and gave. Amalia and her sister and best friend, Gloria Gonzales, became inseparable. Amalia was there for Gloria’s every milestone, from her wedding, to the birth of her four children, to the raising of her children, to treating Gloria and Tony’s grandchildren as her own. Amalia took to the role of second mother and grandmother and never missed a beat. She had a love for cooking, gardening, and well pressed clothes. Amalia was hard working, determined, opinionated (we cannot count the many eye roles she has given Tony throughout the years), and above all honest. She would always finish a goodbye with “si diosito quiere,” and well this time God wanted her to have her final goodbye on this Earth November 29, 2018. Amalia, nos queremos.
