Arthur Madison "Art" Palmer, Jr., was born in Longview, Washington on November 27, 1926. He entered his Heavenly Home on Friday, July 13, 2018 in Houston Texas and is survived by his beautiful wife of 29 years, Johnnie Palmer.
Art grew up in Portland, Oregon during the depression of the 30’s. He enlisted in the U. S. Navy at the age of 17 during World War II. After boot camp, he was selected to attend Pacific Fleet Radio School in Pearl Harbor, for 30 weeks of training. He served aboard a Navy Minesweeper in the Pacific as a radio operator.
After the war, Art attended Oregon State University under the GI Bill – where he was a member of the Varsity Eight-man rowing crew.
Art’s favorite hobbies were playing tennis and sailing with Johnnie, attending Mission trips with Johnnie and getting together on Monday, Wednesday and Fridays with his friends Tom Gray, John Boutwell, Jack Sartin, and Lauren for breakfast and exercise at the Family Life Center at Second Baptist Church.
Art worked six years for Nabisco. He retired at the age of 64 from Playtex Consumer Products Company.
Art joined Second Baptist Church in 1984 and was baptized in the Jordan River, in Israel, by Dr. Jim DeLoach. He met his beautiful wife of 29 years, Johnnie, at Second Baptist Church in 1987 and they were married by Dr. DeLoach on March 18, 1989.
Art loved the Lord Jesus Christ. He and Johnnie are an active part of the Beacon Bible Study Class at Second Baptist Church, where he was a faithful weekly volunteer with the Winning Walk Ministry.
He will best be remembered for his extraordinary giving heart, contagious smile, quick wit, and the way that he cherished Johnnie.
Family and friends will gather and celebrate Art's life during a memorial service at 1:00 p.m. on Wednesday, July 25, 2018 in the Sanctuary of Second Baptist Church, 6400 Woodway in Houston, 77057.
In lieu of customary remembrances, donations to honor Art would be appreciated to Second Baptist Church Missions and Second Loves Kids Ministries.
