Obituary of C. Randall Dorsett
Charles Randall Dorsett was born the 20th of October in 1939 to Lila Mae and W.D. Dorsett in Springville, AL. He passed away January 17th, 2023 at the age of 83 in Houston, Texas. After graduating from Pasadena High School in 1957, Randall was awarded a football scholarship to University of Houston, where he played offensive and defensive end and graduated with degrees in Education and Business. Randall would later receive his Master’s in Education from Sam Houston State University. Throughout the years Randall has served as President of H Association (1980-82), Athletic Hall of Honor Council and Court, the Ex-letterman’s Association, member of the UofH Advisory Committee as well as being a faithful member of the search committee for hiring coaching staff and being the top athletic fund drive raiser at UofH. Other accomplishments include being a Charter member of the Christian Businessman’s Council in Pasadena as well as a board member at Allied Pasadena Bank. He also had the honor of being Pasadena’s first Hall of Fame Inductee. Another induction included the St. Clair Sports Hall of Fame in Alabama. Randall married Lynda Moore in 1961, also a graduate of PHS and UofH. They were both UofH Lifetime Cougars. His and Lynda’s first daughter, Ava was born June 1962 while in Pasadena. Then he signed a pro football contract with the Oakland Raiders as a starting tight end. Randall coached football at Southmore, Dobie, and Klein HS, taking them to the State Finals in 1969 with head coach Bob Brezina. Then Randall became head football coach and athletic director at Klein for four years. Their second daughter, Randa, was born in 1970. After retiring from coaching for many years, Randall began working for his father-in-law as a salesman for Star Engraving Co. in 1976. Then in 1977, he started Dorsett Bros. Concrete with his brother Bill retiring from this venture in 1988. In 2001, his only grandson, Chandler Gross, was born and will be graduating from UofH in May with a Business Degree in Marketing. In 2003, Randall started Fun Town Amusement Park in Crystal Beach on Bolivar. The beach was his favorite place to be and to relax. Many years were spent there with his family until Hurricane Ike brought devastation not only to the park, but also to their much-loved beach house. Randall and Lynda were active members of Sunset Methodist and Friendswood Methodist where Randall served as the Finance Committee Chairman and Building Programs Chairman. Their last church home was Kingwood Methodist. In the coming years, Randall would attribute his survival and triumph over many life-threatening health issues, to the Lord so that he may share with others and give all the glory to God. Randall is preceded in death by his parents Lila Mae and W.D. Dorsett, daughter Ava Lynn Dorsett Petrocelli, brother Don, nephew Donnie, son of Don and Melanie Dorsett and nephew James, son of Bill and Neda Dorsett. He is survived by his loving wife Lynda, daughter Randa Gross and her husband Tim and their son Chandler, sister June Dickson and his brother Bill and wife Neda, and brother Ralph and wife Dianne. Randall will be greatly missed by all and will always be remembered in our hearts as he loved his family, friends and the guys he coached. Comfort comes in knowing he has been reunited with his daughter Ava and they are there waiting for us. With our faith strong and our anchor secure in Jesus, we know we will see him again. Thank you, family and friends for your prayers, love and expressions of care and concern for Randall. We love you all and may God bless each of you. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that you please consider donating to Kingwood Methodist’s Society of St. Stephen or Friendswood Methodist’s Tender Loving Care in loving memory of Randall Dorsett.
