Edith Kump Houseknecht, 96, of Spring, Texas, passed away Tuesday, January 9, 2024. She was born in Pocatello, Idaho, at the stroke of midnight on January 1, 1928, making her the first baby born in Pocatello in the new year.
She is predeceased by her parents, Daphna Lucille and Edward Zachariah Kump, her brothers Thomas and Richard Kump, and her sisters June Ruth Lecumberry and Bernice Young. She is survived by her daughter, Anita Kolodejcak and husband Kenneth, her son, Eric Houseknecht, and her six grandsons – Austin, Blake, and Chad Kolodejcak, and Jules, Lucien, and Dash Houseknecht.
Edith received a Bachelors of Science Degree in Pharmacy from the University of Idaho in 1950. After graduating – then caring for her critically ill mother – she moved to San Francisco to live with her sister, June Ruth, and her niece, Karen. It was there that she met the man she would marry and spend her life alongside.
Edith married Robert Anderson Houseknecht, a proud veteran of the U.S. Navy, on April 19, 1952, and would remain his loving wife for 53 years, until his death on October 30, 2005.
Edith’s life passions include being a proud grandmother of six grandsons, quilting, wearing anything pink, and operating as the unofficial Ambassador for Idaho Potatoes (it’s all about the volcanic ash, she would remind us).
A visitation for Edith will be held Thursday, January 18, 2024 from 11AM to 1PM, followed by a celebration of life from 1PM to 2PM at Brookside Funeral Home - Champions, 3410 Cypress Creek Parkway, Houston, TX 77068.
