The memorial service will be held on Tuesday, December 27, 2022, at 10 am at Forest Park Westheimer Funeral Home and Cemetery at 12800 Westheimer Road, Houston, TX 77077.
Guido was born in Andahuaylas, Apurímac, Peru. He was the son of Oscar Canales (Papi Oki) and Agripina Hernandez (Mami Pina). He was the husband of Bleny Canales. They shared 45 years of marriage, in addition to their 7 years of courtship.
Guido worked at CEPIS (the Center for Sanitary Engineering and Environmental Sciences, a Division of the World Health Organization) in Lima, Peru for close to 20 years where he retired as a Biologist. Prior to CEPIS, he worked for IMARPE, Peru's Ocean Institute. Once he moved to Houston, he worked as a devoted teacher and retired after 10 years of service at HISD. One of his proudest moments early in his career is when he was granted a fellowship in Acoustic Fishery Research by the British Government's Ministry of Overseas Development where he spent one (1) year working in London and other parts of Europe from 1976 to 1977.
He belonged to St Justin Martyr Parish in Houston, Texas. He enjoyed working as a realtor in his later years, riding his bike at the park, traveling as he used to say, “back to the road” and enjoying time with his grandchildren and family. He will be remembered for the great human being he was, hard worker, honest, always helping someone with a smile and a heart of service.
He is survived by his loving wife, Bleny, his sisters, Carmen, Aurora and Pina, his children, Oscar, David, Daniela and Ana Teresa, and his grandchildren, Olivia, Victoria, Alba and Sol.
Fond memories and expressions of sympathy may be shared at www.forestparkwestheimer.com for the Canales family.
