Hortencia Zuniga Gonzales was born on August 28, 1929 to Manuel and Lucia Zuniga in McKay, Texas. She married Joe Perez Gonzales on September 18, 1948, who preceded her in death. The Lord blessed them with seven children: Ernest, wife Louisa; Jo Ann, husband, Gary; Abel, wife, Gloria, Bill, wife Rosenda; Joe Manuel, wife, Tammy; Eliza, late husband Louis, and Cary, wife Gabriela, 21 grandchildren and 21 great grandchildren.
She was the last to survive of her siblings.
Hortencia was a born-again Christian. She attended Lakewood Church and later became a member of Faith Memorial Baptist Church where she taught Sunday School and was involved in the women’s ministries. She is known to many as “Hardy.” She was a craftswoman at sewing and loved quilting. She was awarded “1st Place” for one of her quilts. She also loved to make ceramics. She loved gardening and could talk flowers by the hour. Most of all she loved reading her bible.
She will be remembered by the legacy she leaves, as a warrior of prayer.
We thank the Lord that our mother’s illness and suffering was not prolonged.
