Born in Minco, Oklahoma on January 18, 1931 to William Edward Schutten and Menolia Belle Griffin Schutten. Graduated from Minco High School in 1949 where she was a member of the band. Graduated from South Texas Junior College in 1971 with LVN nursing degree. Janell worked at Memorial City Hospital when it was first built for several years. She continued her nursing career working for Dr. Thomas Steinbach until her retirement.
After retirement, Janell along with her husband, Bob, were members of the Active Older Adults group at the YMCA. Janell enjoyed painting, sewing, arts and crafts, quilting, gardening, and traveling.
Married Charles Crowe in 1953 and had two children: Pamela Sue Crowe Lynch and William Bradford Crowe; divorced Charles in 1959. Married Robert "Bob" Clum in 1960; married 55 years.
Preceded in death by her husband, Robert "Bob" Clum, in 2016, father, William Edward Schutten, in 1996, mother, Menolia Schutten, in 1982, and brother, Edward Griffin Schutten, in 2021. Survived by children: Pamela Lynch and William B. Crowe, grandchildren: Yvette Hopkins, Kevin Libby, and Misty Crowe, great-grandchildren: Brayden Libby, Bellamie Libby, Tristan Hopkins, and Trevor Hopkins, sister-in-law, Linda Schutten, nephews: Ken Schutten and Travis Schutten, great nieces: Mia Schutten, Martina Schutten, and Janie Schutten, great nephews: Marco Schutten and Griffin Schutten.
A visitation for Janell will be held Saturday, September 9, 2023 from 5:00 PM to 7:00 PM at Memorial Oaks Funeral Home, 13001 Katy Fwy, Houston, Texas. A funeral service will occur Sunday, September 10, 2023 from 10:00 AM to 11:00 AM at Texas Liberty Mausoleum Chapel, 13001 Katy Fwy, Houston, Texas. A graveside service will occur Sunday, September 10, 2023 at 11:00 AM at Memorial Oaks Cemetery, 13001 Katy Fwy, Houston, Texas.
