In Brenham Texas, on January 4, 1933, Cornelius and Katie Baltimore were blessed with the birth of their fifth child, a baby girl whom they named Johnnie Mae.
She began her education in Brenham, but after moving to Houston, Texas in 1944, she finished her education in Houston which included becoming a cosmetologist for over 50 years. She was a pillar of the Acres Homes Community where she worked alongside her sister in Willie B’s Beauty Nook for over 45 years.
She accepted Christ at an early age, and later united with the Mount Pleasant Baptist Church in 1957, under the leadership of late the Rev. G.G. Grant. She faithfully served on the Sr. Usher Board, Mission #1, Sunday School, Bible Training Unit, and Vacation Bible School. She also worked diligently with youth as an overseer of the Easter and Christmas Programs. Additionally, Johnnie Mae was a Worthy Matron of Twilight Chapter #393 Order of the Eastern Stars.
She was joined in Holy Matrimony to Thomas White on September 24, 1954. To this union four children were born, three sons and one daughter. She was preceded in death by her parents, her loving husband Thomas White Sr., four sisters: Dorothy Lee, Katie Mae, Willie B., Virgie Lee, two brothers: Robert and Cornelius, one step daughter Joyce Polk and a grandson Ronald J. White Jr.
Johnnie Mae went to be with the Lord on February 13, 2021. She leaves to continue her legacy, four sons Thomas Jr., Ronald Sr., Robert Sr. (Glenda), Richard; and one daughter, Rosilyn Shepherd (Demetrius), a multitude of grandchildren, great-grandchildren and great-great grandchildren. In addition, she had two special daughters: Debra White Whitfield and Dorothy White Lewis, two sisters: Rosie Rice and Emma Jane Freeman, and a host of nieces, nephews’ relatives and friends.
