Loretta Marie Monakino
March 26, 1933 – October 4, 2019
Loretta Marie Becker Monakino, 86; Born March 26, 1933, went to be with the Lord on October 4, 2019.
She was born in Cameron, TX. She was the second born to Mabel and William “Bill” Becker. She grew up in Ben Arnold, TX and attended Cameron High School. Shortly after graduating she moved to Austin, TX to work for the Board of Education. Later she moved to Houston, TX to take a position at the University of St. Thomas.
Soon after arriving in Houston she met the love of her life, Sam Monakino Jr. in 1963 and they began a whirlwind courtship and married shortly thereafter. One year later in 1964 they welcomed their son Paul Monakino.
Loretta left the University of St. Thomas to focus on her new family and to join her husband Sam working in the family grocery store, Airline Supermarket. Then in 1979, Loretta and Sam were able to realize their dream and opened Sam’s Country Bar-B-Que.
Always the socialite Loretta was a board member in many clubs and organizations.
She loved to travel and took many amazing trips all over the world.
Loretta was an animal lover to the fullest. In addition to her many dogs and cats she also raised many different types of animals. Everything from birds and squirrels to rabbits, goats and pigs.
She was also an avid collector of many things, from Precious Moments, dolls and toys to plates, coins and Wild Turkey decanters.
She was a very fun-loving person and was always the first one up and ready to have fun. She loved to go to the Houston Livestock Show and Rodeo every year and attended most of the performances. She was ready for a country music concert anytime. She also loved the beach and could be found looking for sharks’ teeth and sand dollars on any summer day.
In 1984 Loretta found her true happiness when she became a grandmother “Grannie” for the first time and again in 2007 when she became a great-grandmother.
Loretta was preceded in death by her parents, Mabel and William “Bill” Becker, her husband Sam Monakino Jr., sisters-in-law Pansy Becker and Margie Atkinson and brother-in-law Bobby Atkinson.
She is survived by her brother Ray Becker, her son Paul Monakino Sr., 6 grandchildren Heather Monakino, husband Kenyata Roberts, Paul “PJ” Monakino Jr, wife Ashley Monakino, Hailey Monakino and Sydne Monakino. 6 great-grandchildren Cameron Roberts, Chloe Roberts, Brody Monakino, Colton Monakino, Cash Roberts, and Emily Monakino. Numerous nieces, nephews and life long friends.
