Mary Elizabeth (Oberg) Lewis, was born in Denver, Colorado on October 8, 1927 to parents, John Wesley and Anna (Yost) Oberg. She passed away in Houston, Texas on Monday, October 28, 2019 at the age of 92.
Mary was baptized in 1928 at the Evanston Evangelical United Brethren Church. She was a 1946 graduate of South High School in Denver. Mary transferred to Houston in 1955 while employed with Bay Petroleum Corp., which later became Tenneco Oil. She retired on June 30, 1986.
Mary was a longtime member of Memorial Lutheran Church, where she was an active member of the choir. She also enjoyed being a member and Past President of the Ikenobo Society of Texas.
Mary was preceded in death by her parents, sisters Barbara Fraser and Shirley Ann Wingett, as well as her beloved husband, Sam B. Lewis, Jr. She is survived by her son, Mark C. Lewis and wife Tracy; daughter, Melinda Lewis; grandson, Samuel H. Lewis; granddaughter, Mia C. Lewis; nieces and nephews, Lindy and Glen Churchill, Greg and Donna Lamont, Chris Lamont, Eric Wingett, Leigh and Steve Parmenter; along with other family members and dear friends.
Family and friends gathered and celebrated this wonderful woman’s life at 10:00 a.m. on Monday, November 4, 2019 at Memorial Lutheran Church, 5800 Westheimer Rd. in Houston, Texas, where funeral services began in the sanctuary at 11:00 a.m. with The Rev. Dr. Scott R. Murray officiating. Following a brief reception, graveside services and interment were held at 2:00 p.m. at Houston National Cemetery, 10410 Veterans Memorial Drive, also in Houston.
