Marylee Deyarmon Spears was born July 30, 1924 in Brownsville, Pennsylvania as the only child of Margaret Eleanor (Reed) Deyarmon and David Edwin Deyarmon - the descendent of William Penn Quakers, Methodist Ministers and one of the founders of Uniontown, Pa.
She married her high school sweetheart, Alexander White Spears, Jr. on September 1, 1944 prior to Alex shipping out for Europe during World War II. After the war, she and Alex initially settled in Pennsylvania, then moved to Mobile, Alabama before settling in Houston in 1963. During this time, they had five loving children and remained married until Alex’s death in 1975. She never remarried.
Marylee was an active member of St. Stephens United Methodist church where she was a member for over 40 years. She was a devoted mother to her 5 children, and a loving “Grommy” to her 4 grandchildren, 2 step-grandchildren, 2 great-grandchildren and 9 step-great-grandchildren. She loved travel, friends, family, and her church. She loved to laugh and almost always had a smile. Her travels took her to China, Russia, Germany, England, Hawaii and numerous other US States.
She is predeceased by her mother, father, husband, son - David Alexander Spears, son - Matthew Owens Spears, daughter - Margaret (“Peggy”) Lee Bahou, and granddaughter - Victoria Ann Griffith. She is survived by son – Edwin (“Ned”) Deyarmon Spears and wife Tina; son – Jonathon White Spears and wife Susan; grandchildren Sarah Ann Bahou, Elizabeth Suzanne (Bahou) Adams and husband Jesse, David Alexander Spears, and Jonathon Andrew Spears; step-grandchildren Tracey Miller and Brandon Dempsey; great-grandchildren Austin Taylor Adams and Skye Benham Griffith; and step-great-grandchildren Alexia, Kieran, Caden, Victoria, Carson, Ethan, Madison, Mason and Emerson.
She will be buried at Houston National Cemetery with her husband Alex.
