Patricia Rae Niles passed from this earth on a warm December morning, 12-4-2022. Patricia Rae Compton was born in the little Texas town of Moody. Also known as GiGi by her grand-kids and great grand-kids, she lived a long and active life of almost ninety-seven years involved with family and friends.
Patricia graduated high school and had some vocational training before she met the love of her life, Bruce Innes Niles. Patricia’s dad, Dewey Compton, was principal of a high school in Batson, Texas and her mother, Lula Mae, was a teacher. Pat and Bruce lived in New Orleans a while before moving back to Houston. Teaching must have been in her blood because after some time she began teaching pre-school at a local Houston church. Patricia attended and was an active member of Terrace Methodist church in Houston before her health declined. She gave regularly to some of her favorite charities, the SPCA, and The St. Joseph’s Indian school. Pat and Bruce were avid square dancers and would travel to various dancing exhibits. Patricia loved her house and yard in Spring Branch where she lived for more than sixty years before she moved into an assisted living facility.
Patricia lost husband Bruce to Alzheimer’s and daughter Tracye Lynn Keyes to cancer several years ago. Pat is survived by her son Mark David Niles Sr. and wife Mary, grandchildren Matthew Avery Niles, Mark David Niles Jr. and his wife Melissa and great grandchildren Luna Aurora Niles, Zen Bruce Niles as well as devoted son-in-law Tom Keyes. Patricia’s surviving family live in Houston except Tom who resides in Tomball, Texas. We would like to acknowledge the Forum of Memorial Woods, an assisted living facility in Houston that provided excellent care for Pat over the last few months of her life.
In lieu of any memorial contributions consider donating to one of Pat’s favorite charities: The Saint Joseph Indian School, an organization that supports approximately 200 Lakota (Sioux) boys and girls. The children receive top-notch education, loving house parents and the security of living in a safe home with enough to eat.
