Headstrong all her life, Rachel Barrientes pushed her way into the world on May 23, 1954 in Houston, TX the youngest of eight children. From her mother, she learned to masterfully cook extemporaneous meals with nary a measurement. From her Catholic school upbringing, she learned her deep faith. And from her full household, she learned the value of keeping things clean. She had a love of all animals nurturing more than her fair share of pets who she would delight with singing and pats on their hindquarters. She was also a champion of children giving generous gifts, a helping hand, and ready to defend at the drop of a hat.
Rachel Barrientes is survived by her husband, John Barrientes and her stepson Chris; former husband, Terence Fanning and their children, Patrick, Dennis, and Joseph; grandchildren Natalie, Jacob, Rian, Andrew, and Sophia; siblings, Angel, Julio, Richard, Sr. Gabriela, SSMN, Gilbert, Charles, and Lydia; and numerous nephews, nieces, friends, neighbors, and strangers that she quickly filled in with her life story. She is preceded in death by her parents, Marcella and Antioco Martinez.
A private visitation for close family and friends will be held at Forest Park Lawndale Funeral Home on July, 23rd, 2021 at 9:00 AM at 6900 Lawndale St. followed by a Mass at Resurrection Church at 2:00 PM at 915 Zoe St. In lieu of flowers, please donate to the SPCA.
