After graduating from Incarnate Word Academy, Rena worked for many years, mainly in banking, but her primary focus was to care for her husband and raise her sons. Rena was known for cooking pasta and “suga” every Sunday for family and friends to visit and eat. Rena enjoyed taking care of her grandchildren and lovingly called them her “babies”. Rena was dedicated to praying the Holy Rosary each day and was a faithful member of St. Rose of Lima Catholic Church.
Rena was preceded in death by her father, Joseph Dames from Fabrizia-Calabria and Carrie DeForke Dames of Corleone, Sicily. She is also preceded in death by her husband George John Spanos. She is survived by her three sons, John Spanos and his wife Teri, Joe Spanos and his wife Christi, and Frank Spanos and his wife Stacy. She is survived by her grandchildren, Anthony Spanos, Tiffany Spanos, Zach Spanos, John Spanos, Ronnie Spanos and Julia Spanos, her brother, Frank Dames and her sister-in-law, Sr. Helen Spanos.
Serving as pallbearers are Gerald Garcia, Rick Saldana, Andy Adams, Michael DeForke, Steve Benys, Chip Patronella, Nicholas Spedale and honorary pallbearer, Anthony Alvarez.
Friends are invited to the visitation with the family from 5:00 PM – 7:00 PM with recitation of the Holy Rosary at 7:00 PM on Sunday, December 4, 2022, in the Hunters Creek Chapel at Earthman Funeral Directors, 8303 Katy Freeway, Houston, TX 77024. A Mass of Christian Burial will be on Monday, December 5, 2022, at 10:00 AM at St. Rose of Lima Catholic Church, 3600 Brinkman Street, Houston, TX 77018. The Rite of Committal will follow at Holy Cross Cemetery, 3502 N. Main Street, Houston, TX 77009.
