A native of Acres Homes, Roland attended Carver High School and graduated in 1971. Continuing he studies and love of football he enrolled at Stephen F. Austin University and joined the fighting Lumberjacks football team as a lineman and tight end. During his college years he was inducted into Phi Beta Sigma Fraternity, Incorporated.
After college Roland joined the semi-professional league, the San Antonio Wings.
Once he returned home, Roland served as a Big Brother to Houston area youth.
In his career, he excelled to the position of Utility Shift Superintendent while serving for over 35 years for Phillips 66 (now Chervon-Phillips). Roland served as a board member for Shared Resources Credit Union, the Phillips Fire Brigade, a Channelview Volunteer Fireman and taught various chemical fire safety schools at Texas A&M University.
Throughout his life Roland discovered a love of the outdoors. He enjoyed many activities such as boating, equestrianism, fishing and vacationing. While in his retired years he was able to enjoy his time in the gentle countryside of Bellville, Texas.
Roland’s robust personality and friendly nature gained him many friends. Forever, the jokester, Roland showed his love for people with a gentle smile and quick wit.
His earthly journey ended on May 30, 2020 in Houston, Texas and is preceded in death by his mother and father.
To his relatives, neighbors, friends, and all who knew him, he was a heart full of love, service and sacrifice. His beautiful life will be forever cherished in the lives of his host of family and friends.
