Shirley Jo Sandlin, affectionately known as Mimi, of Pearland, Texas, passed away peacefully on Sunday, November 9, 2025, surrounded by her loving family at the age of 80 following a short but courageous battle with leukemia.
Born July 16, 1945 to Jessie and Cecil Sterett, Shirley was a proud Houstonian who dedicated her life to education, faith, and family. After attending Texas Tech University, she earned her education degree from the University of Houston, which launched her long and distinguished career as a mathematics teacher for 25 years.
Shirley was a devoted and active member of Sagemont Church for many years, where her faith was a guiding light in her life. Outside of the classroom and church, she was an avid Houston Astros fan and watched all kinds of sports. She cherished the time spent with her family, especially on trips to Branson, Missouri, creating lasting memories and attending just about every show they offered!
Shirley is preceded in death by her beloved husband of 56 years, William "Bill" Sandlin, and her mother and father.
She is survived by her children: son, Phil Sandlin (Nerissa), and daughter, Jennifer Kramer (Robert). Her legacy continues through her nine grandchildren: Blake Sandlin, Kelsie Shafer (Daniel), Rachel Smith, Ian Smith, Madison Kramer, Clayton Sandlin, Samantha Kramer, Amy Kramer, and Morgan Worrell (Dustin). She is also survived by three great-grandchildren, Allison Jo Shafer, who carries on our sweet Mimi's name, Maisy Worrell, and Harper Worrell.
Shirley Jo "Mimi" Sandlin will be remembered for her dedication to her family, her commitment to her students, and her unwavering faith. The lunch table will never be the same, but we know that she is with us in spirit! Above all her warmth, wisdom, and love will be deeply missed by all who knew her.
The family would like to thank her amazing team of caregivers, Irene, Alma, Lorraine, and Veronica. The entire staff of MD Anderson and Memorial Hermann Medical Center.
