Gustavo Aurelio Delgadillo, 54, of Turlock, passed away on Monday, November 4, 2019, surrounded by loved ones, after bravely fighting a courageous battle with cancer. Gustavo was the first-born son of Aurelio Delgadillo and Pachita Marquez Delgadillo. He was born on January 25, 1965 in Teocaltiche, Jalisco, Mexico. At the age of two, the family moved to South San Francisco, where Gustavo lived until he was ten years old. Gustavo and his siblings had an adventurous childhood in the city, playing baseball in empty sandlots and repelling off the sides of their home. After Gustavo’s father had back surgery, the family moved to Livingston for the warmer climate. Gustavo finished the rest of his school years in Livingston, graduating in 1983 from Livingston High School. In middle school Gustavo was involved in music, playing the trombone. In high school, Gustavo bought his first car at 15, and began a lifelong interest in learning everything there was to know about cars.

After graduation, Gustavo attended Merced College for one year and then started working as a mechanic in a garage. Gustavo worked at various auto repair shops for the next twenty years. During this time, Gustavo met the love of his life, Francisca Ortega.

Gustavo and Francisca married on December 28, 1996. Gustavo and Francisca welcomed son Alejandro in 1999, and daughter Giulianna in 2004. Over the next few years, Gustavo changed career paths to one that enabled him to have more time with his adored family. Gustavo has worked for Turlock Unified School District since 2005. In 2007, he started working as lead custodian at Dennis Earl Elementary. In this position, Gustavo was well-loved by staff and students. Gustavo took great pride in the work he did for the school district. Gustavo had such a zest for living. He loved being a doting, hands-on father. Gustavo enjoyed taking his family camping, on road trips, and to baseball games. The family especially enjoyed their trips to Yellowstone National Park, and Hawaii, building great memories.

Gustavo is survived by his wife of 23 years, Francisca, son Alejandro, daughter Giulianna, mother Pachita, brothers: Raul (Kathy), Rudy, and Hector, and many adoring in-laws; father/mother-in-law, Francisco and Maria Ortega; brothers/sisters-in-law: Sandra (Jose) Ramos, Martin (Katrina) Ortega, Maria Ortega, Nicolas Ortega and 12 nieces and nephews: Alexis, Jacob, Marcus, Anna, Jesus, Ilianna, Elissa, Brianna, Rudy, Christian, Clara and Theo. Gustavo is preceded in death by his father Aurelio.

Visitation will be held at Lakewood Memorial on Friday, November 15th, 4:00 – 8:00pm with Rosary at 6:00pm. Funeral Service will be held at All Saints University Parish at 10:00am followed by the burial at Lakewood Memorial Park.

I met Gus back in high school and we’ve remained friends through all these years. When he started working at Denis Earl I was excited to know that my son Andrew would get to meet such a great man. Andrew would deliberately get in trouble so he could go work with Gus! I would always tell Gus to stop making it fun for Andrew! Gus would say “I can’t help it, kids just love me!” He was right they all did! Gus will forever be missed! Our deepest condolences to his family! Gus was definitely a great man and friend!

Gustavo, I can’t believe you’re gone. We all still see and hear you at work. You’re essence lingers and it’s hard believing we’ll never see you again. I’m blessed to have known you, and my heart breaks for your familia. Love you my friend. I’ll miss you so much.
