When you meet your future husband in 4th grade, your 4th grade teacher becomes your lifelong friend. It was 1993 when I first met Marcus Garcia.

Together we would experience what Mrs. Donavan would create on a daily basis for us to enjoy in the classroom. Every holiday was important to her. She believed in celebrating everything and cherished every child.

In March 2001 we went back to Mrs. Donavan and read Dr. Suess books to her class. She was absolutely thrilled to see us together and even more excited to know we were going to prom later that year. Eight years later we reached out to her again. This time it was to invite her to our wedding. She came to our wedding on August 1, 2009 & had a front and center table. We kept in touch more regularly after our wedding. She even sent Marcus blue prints of ideas of what to do with our backyard when we bought our first house. Needless to say, she was delighted when she received an invitation to our 1st baby shower. After she was no longer able to drive, we became pen pals. She never forgot our anniversary and reminded us to take care of each other and our children. She was incredibly proud of her little 4th grade students who had grown up to be educators, like herself.

I’m sure she touched and made a difference in many of her student’s lives throughout her teaching career. She was without a doubt the best teacher I’ve ever had, because after every visit I would always learn something new. And she was always Mrs. Donavan.
