Viola Ruth Litterer, 87, passed away the night of August 14, 2018 at her home in Modesto, California surrounded by her loved ones. She was born in Temvik, North Dakota on July 20, 1931. Viola graduated from Elk Grove High School, receiving her High School Diploma. Immediately after graduating, she began working at Elk Grove Telephone Company as a Switchboard Operator.
Viola enjoyed cooking and baking (especially during the holidays), going to casinos, boating on the Delta, and having parties on the back patio. She was a staple in her neighborhood, often inviting everyone over for card games, dinners, and offering baked goods.
She married James (Jim) Robert Litterer on June 28, 1953. They shared their lives together for 41 years up until the time of his passing in 1994.
Viola is survived by her son Curtis Litterer (Pearl) of New Hampshire, and two daughters Deborah Castillo (Jose) of Newman, and Diana Jackson of Modesto. She has 7 grandchildren and 3 great-grandchildren, sister: Arlis Jocher. She is preceded in death by her husband James Litterer, and brother Leo Forderer. Visitation for Viola will be held on Saturday, August 25, 2018 from 10:00 am to 12:00 pm at Lakewood Funeral Home – Riverside Chapel. Service will begin at 12:00 pm. 900 Santa Fe Avenue, Hughson, California.
