Millie was born on June 24, 1931 in Philadelphia, to parents Wallace and Eva Whener. Millie worked hard at being a single mother of three girls. Her paid occupation began at Rose Mills, then Spangler Envelope, and eventually she retired in 1996 from Frankford Hospital where she worked in custodial services. She was a long time resident of Philadelphia, PA; later in life she lived in Hamburg, PA and East Greenville, PA.
While in Philadelphia, Millie was active in her church, Wissinoming Presbyterian. She sang in the Hallelujah Singers Choir with her daughter Jeanne, and two of her granddaughters. After retirement, she became a snow bird, wintering in Florida. She took many trips to Disney World with her daughter Mary, along with her family and friends, and enjoyed learning to play Queen of Hearts. Throughout her life Millie made many beautiful crocheted blankets, read many, many books, and completed countless cross word puzzles.
Millie was preceded in death by her parents, sisters Lillian and Florence, daughter Diane Weiss, son-in-law Ken D. Hewlett, Sr, and grandson Ken D. Hewlett, Jr. Millie is survived by her two daughters, Mary Hewlett and Jeanne Hermley (Robert Hermley, Sr.); four grandchildren, Jeanne Hermley, Dianna Olszewski (Ryan), Heather Hermley (Bret), Robert Hermley, Jr. (Melissa); eight great-grandchildren, Peter, Andrew, Jacob, Molly, Zac, Julianna, Bryce, and Evelyn and her brother Ray (Edna) Whener.
Relatives and friends are invited to call on Monday, April 12, 2021, 10 am to 12 noon at Lamb Funeral Home, 101 Byberry Road, Huntingdon Valley, PA,. Her funeral service will be at 12 noon. The interment will be at Forest Hills Cemetery.
