John was born in Boston to John and Wanda (Chaska) Howlett. As a young man, John enlisted in the Army where, in 1952, he proudly served assisting in the efforts to stabilize Germany after the end of the occupation era. Back from his tour of duty, John enrolled in Boston State College, majoring in Teaching, where he would meet his wife Joan who was enrolled in the Teaching program as well. After graduation, and marriage, John and Joan settled in Foxboro, where they both worked as Teachers in the Foxboro School System for 35 years. Upon retirement, John and Joan moved to Cape Cod, where John had been summering since 1970. John enjoyed playing golf and watching the Boston sports teams including the Red Sox, New England Patriots, Bruins and the Celtics. John and Joan savored escaping the New England cold by spending winters in Fort Myers, Florida.
In addition to his wife of 61 years Joan (Visnor), John is survived by his three daughters, Ann-Marie Howlett of Foxboro, Carolyn Stivaletta of Fort Myers, FL, and Christine and her husband Rich Kent of Foxboro; two grandchildren, Samantha and Trevor Kent; and, a brother Ronald Howlett of Fort Myers, FL.
