Dolores Lobo

September 12, 1934September 20, 2021

Duxbury - Dolores Lobo, age 87 of Duxbury, MA and formerly of Centerville, MA, passed peacefully on September 20, 2021 with family by her side. Born September 12, 1934 in New Bedford, MA to Lawrence Lobo and Casimira Gonsalves both from Brava, Cabo Verde, she was a graduate of Fairhaven High School, MA and studied Interior Design at the Chicago School of Design.

Dolores was an entrepreneur at heart and pursued a variety of business opportunities over the years including Just Plain Fancy, a dog grooming shop in Osterville, International Trade Co., an import-export business, and managed Emily Lawrence Ltd., a women's fashion store, in Dennis, MA and Centerville, MA. Other jobs included selling timeshare in Massachusetts, Vermont and Pennsylvania. Always wanting to keep busy and be useful, Dolores worked right up until her untimely death as a home health aide for Greater Boston Home Health Care Services. The irony that she sat with old people was not lost on those dear to her, but she was always up for the task.

Dolores was as artistic as she was entrepreneurial. She enjoyed painting, sculpting, decorating, and was a woman of great style. She loved traveling and politics and was always ready to stand up for the underrepresented guided by a strong sense of justice. But most of all, she was about connection and loved being surrounded by people she loved. Dolores was loyal, attentive, and generous with family and friends, always up for a visit or an adventure. She had an infectious and easy laugh and a quick wit. She kept her youthful spirit until the end.

Dolores was the matriarch, deeply respected and loved by her extended family. She was the oldest of fifteen children, the mother of five (Marc, Dennis, Leo-Glenn, Pam, and Michelle), with 7 grandchildren and 8 great grandchildren. Leo-Glenn preceded her in death in 1995.

Wake and ceremonies will be held at Doane, Beal and Ames, 160 West Main St., in Hyannis, MA on October 16 from 11 AM to 1 PM. A ceremony will be held at 12:30 PM.

In lieu of flowers donations can be made to the Cape Verdean Recognition Committee Scholarship Fund (CVRC, Inc), P.O. Box 3070, New Bedford, MA 02741 in Dolores Lobo's name.

Delores was a beautiful woman inside and out. As dignified as she was classy. As compassionate as she was fun-loving and adventurous. A devoted mother and friend to everyone who knew her. I hope that her family will always know how much she was loved and respected.
