Alice V. Street

March 23, 1923August 24, 2018

Alice Virginia Harter Street, at 95 years of age, passed away on August 24, 2018 in Lancaster, SC. She was born March 23, 1923, the 10th of 11 children to John and Sophronia (McCoy) Harter, in Leeds, MO. She grew up in Willow Springs, MO and was a long time resident of Independence, MO. She and her husband, Frank (Speedy) Street left in 2004 to move to Indianapolis, IN where he passed away, and then to Mooresville, NC and Lancaster, SC. Alice was employed by Lake City Arsenal in Independence, MO during World War II and later by Western Electric in Lee’s Summit, MO. She loved being in the kitchen, preparing many delicious meals for her family and friends, but rarely sitting down herself to eat with them. This came from having lived through the Depression when her family had very little to eat. One of the things she was most noted for, were her delicious cinnamon rolls. Her other amazing talent was the many beautiful quilts she made. She had such a big heart, always wanting to help anyone in any way she could. Alice was preceded in death by her husband of 40 years, Frank Street; granddaughter Jennifer Carter; parents, sisters Georgia, Mary and Helen and brothers James, Paul, Melvin, John, Kenneth, Ralph and Robert. She is survived by son Jim Carter (Gaye) and daughter Reba Peavler (Dennis); four grandchildren Erin Peavler (Kelly); Chaney Peavler Brown (Dave); Jason Carter and Josh Carter; and six great grandchildren Mackenzie, Eli, Addison, Gavin, Ashton and Margot. Arrangements are being coordinated by Burgess Funeral Home of Lancaster, SC and Newcomer Noland Road Chapel of Independence, MO. Funeral service will be held at 11am, Wednesday, August 29, 2018, preceded by visitation from 10-11am in the chapel at Newcomer Noland Road. Burial will follow at Mound Grove Cemetery, 1818 N. River Blvd, Independence, MO. Online condolences may be left at Arr: Newcomer Noland Road Chapel, 509 S. Noland Rd, Independence, MO 64050.
