

Viewing will be from 3 to 7 p.m. Monday, June 29, at Crown Hill Funeral Home, 700 W. 38th St., Indianapolis. A memorial service will follow.
Mr. Smith was born Sept. 23, 1937, to Victor V. and Neva L. (Thompson) Smith in Logansport, Ind. He graduated Logansport High School in 1955 and Michigan State University in 1959. On Oct. 31, 1959, he married Patricia Louise (Terrill) Smith. They would have been married 50 years this October. In addition to his wife, survivors include two sons, Marshall (Carol) Smith of Carmel, and Samuel I. (Melissa) Smith of Carmel; and a grandson, Kiernan P. Smith.
Mr. Smith took a job with Grande's flower shop after college, and eventually bought the Kiefer Flower Shop on West 16th Street. Kiefer's evolved into George Thomas nearly 40 years ago with a merger of Knightstown Greenhouses.
A lifelong Hoosier and resident of Carmel for 36 years, Mr. Smith was a member of the East 91st Street Christian Church and loved gardening, golf and watching his grandson's baseball and football games.
