Surviving are her children, Reed (Liz), Rachel (Jose) and two grandchildren, Peyton and Savannah. She is survived by her brother, Greg (Bonnie).
A celebration of life is being planned for Ms. Gunter in Spartanburg, SC at her childhood home.
Jan graduated from the University of South Carolina and completed graduate work from several South Carolina colleges. She taught for over 40 years in South Carolina schools. Her favorite areas were Language Arts and Special Education. Jan loved education and children. She also spent some time teaching in Asia.
She loved animals, and she will be remembered for her tender heart and her kindness toward others. She always rooted for the underdog. Jan was a positive influence on all those around her, with her great sense of humor being remembered by all who knew her.
