Howard Coon Jr.

Howard Edward Coon, 86, passed away Tuesday, April 9, 2013 at St. Dominic Hospital. Services will be 3:00pm Saturday at Wright and Ferguson Funeral Home on High Street in Jackson, preceded by visitation at 1:30am. Burial will be in Lakewood South Cemetery.

He retired after a 41 year career with MP&L as a cable splicer. He was a longtime member of Our Redeemer Lutheran Church, where he served as an elder. He was past-president and past financial secretary of I.B.EW. Local union No. 605.

Survivors include one son, Howard Coon III (Patsy) of Brandon; daughter, Susan Smith (Dennis) of Corinth; four grandchildren, Megan Johnson (Russ) of Southaven, Clancy Readman (Jack) of Florence, Kristin Tull (Lee) of Corinth and Dustin Smith of Corinth; one great grandchild, Millie Janalee Johnson of Southaven, MS; one sister, Rebecca Boleware of Terry, MS; two brothers, Calvin Bryant of Terry, MS and Cliff Bryant of Crystal Springs, MS.

He was preceded in death by his wife of 64 years, Dorothy Jean Coon and a brother, Joe Bryant of Terry, MS.
