Jack O. Waldrup
July 29, 1936 – October 2, 2019
Jack O. Waldrup, 83, of Jacksonville Beach, Fla., passed away October 2, 2019 at Almost Home Beaches of Mayport, Fla., after a long illness. He was born in Elkin, N.C. to Charlie, Sr. and Margaret Waldrup on July 29, 1936.
In 1955 he graduated from Jonesville High School in Elkin, N.C. After graduation he joined the U.S. Navy and served four years. He was married to his first wife, Eva Phelps, for six years and his second wife, Barbara Benderver, for over 40 years. Jack worked as a professional fisherman and in drywall construction.
He was a member of the Oceanside Christian Church of Mayport, Fla. and the VFW Post 3270 of Jacksonville Beach, Fla. He had a passion for singing Gospel and Country Music and playing the guitar for all who would listen and also playing golf with his brothers.
Jack is preceded in death by: his parents; his first and second wife; two sisters, Mary Waldrup and Dorothy Jones; two half-sisters, Blanch and Louise Waldrup; two brothers, Charlie Waldrup, Jr. and Paul Waldrup; Sr.; a daughter, Deanna Waldrup; a step-granddaughter, Leslie Scholz. He is survived by: a daughter, Eva Nadine Waldrup (Robert) Klem of Jacksonville, Fla.; two sons, Jack Alan Waldrup of Mesquite, Tex. and Garrath Phelps of Sanderson, Fla.; two honorary children, Karen (Dennis) Mead of Starke, Fla. and Robert (Giovonna) Pinkerton of Lake City, Fla.; two step-sons, Fred Scholz of Jacksonville Beach, Fla. and Ted Glisson of California; a brother, Tommy Waldrup of Lake City, Fla. Jack is also survived by several grandchildren, great-grandchildren, great-great-grandchildren; many nieces and nephews; and one uncle, William Waldrup. Jack was a sweet-loving man who will be greatly missed by all who knew him.
Celebration of Life Service at 1:00 p.m. on Monday, October 7, 2019 with visitation 1-hour before service at HARDAGE-GIDDENS FUNERAL HOME, 1701 Beach Blvd., Jacksonville Beach, Fla. Committal Service with military honors rendered by the U.S. Navy at 3PM at Chapel Hills Memory Gardens, 850 St. Johns Bluff Rd. N., Jacksonville, Fla.
