Alvia Rhoden Jr.

Alvia Rhoden Jr. (“Al”), Jacksonville, Florida passed away on December 14, 2018. He was born on June 6, 1927, in Jacksonville, Florida to parents Alvia and Roma Rhoden. He was predeceased by older brother Clyde Rhoden. He is survived by Gloria, his wife of 69 years, children Cathy Gooding (David) and Cindy Hogan (Robby), grandchildren Michael Hogan (Daphne), Sara Thompson (Joshua), Missy Stachitas (Ted), John Gooding (Heather), Matt Hogan, and Michelle Hogan, three great grandchildren, and several nieces and nephews. Al lived in Jacksonville most of his life and graduated from Robert E. Lee High School and attended business college. He was a faithful member of First Baptist Church of Jacksonville for 50 years, serving as Sunday school teacher, deacon, and on several committees, including finance and benevolence. He served in the US Navy, worked at Winn Dixie Stores for 35 years and after his retirement, Al worked as co-owner of Union 700 Warehouse for 40 years. He loved his family dearly and committed his life to serving the Lord. Visitation will be held at First Baptist Church of Jacksonville, Ortega Campus, on Tuesday, December 18th from 10:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. A memorial service will be held at 11:00 a.m., with a reception immediately following the service. There will be a private burial at Jacksonville National Cemetery. HARDAGE-GIDDENS EDGEWOOD CHAPEL, 729 Edgewood Ave. S., Jacksonville, FL 32205 is serving the family.
