She was born in Jacksonville, Florida on July 25, 1937 and was a long-time resident of San Marco. One of the first graduates of Bishop Kenny High School, Angela was a member of the class of 1955. She subsequently attended Barry College in Miami.
An employee of the City of Jacksonville for 33 years, Angela retired from the Clerk of the Circuit Court in 1998. She received several letters of commendation and made many friends throughout her tenure with the City.
Angela was predeceased by her parents Philip and Teresa Akra, also long-time residents of San Marco, as well as by her husband of 35 years, Marvin Vance Collie.
She is survived by her daughter; Allison Mims Nichols (Dan), son; Michael Mims (Karen), their father, Angela’s first husband; Geoffrey Mims Jr., stepdaughter; Constance Collie, sister; Mariam Akra McClure (Rufus), grandchildren; who call her ‘Nana’: Garrett, Ansley and Camille Nichols, Grace, Gayle Murray (Joseph), Gabrielle, Gretchen, Joel and Goldie Mims, step-grandson; Brian Collie, step-granddaughter; Alicia Forman, great grandchildren; Isaac and Annabelle Murray, niece; Maura McClure Donoher (Gary), nephews; Matthew McClure (Terri) and Sean McClure (Donna) and their children, Katie, Cory and Kyle Donoher; Bryce and Tyler McClure; and Brittany and Brennan McClure.
Due to Angela’s beautiful, tanned complexion, her childhood friends affectionately called her ‘chocolate drop.’ This nickname stuck for many years. And as a long-time Gator fan, her favorite greeting to friends and strangers alike was “Go Gators!” But she was more likely to use this favorite phrase of hers as she was saying goodbye….
….. so to our Nana we say “GO Gators!”
